Molly's teeth!

Last night I decided to clean Molly's teeth. She had a black line of calculus near her gumline on her upper canines, and a smidgen of veneered calculus on her upper molars, but that is about it. But you should have heard how the people at the vet's office a couple of weeks ago went on and on about it. Seriously. For all my dental hygiene peeps: they made it sound like she was a Class 5 or something. They said she needed to be scheduled for a cleaning and that they may have to sedate her to do it. Okay. If you have ever met Molly, you know that she is a crazy, super hyper, out of control dog. AT FIRST!!! If you stay for about ten minutes and let her settle down a bit, she is the most normal dog ever. With just Jake and I around the house, she is the perfect dog. She knows sit, stay, lay down, up, and shake. And if you say "shake" and then "other paw", she will shake with the other paw!! She is a great dog until someone comes over. Anyway.....I knew that we didn't need to sedate her, and I sure didn't go to hygiene school to have to pay someone else to clean my family's teeth. And our dogs are part of our family. So I sat on the floor with Molly's head in my lap and Jake holding back her gums and petting her and we got it done. She was awesome. She didn't like the sound (or maybe the feel?) of "scraping" her teeth, but she held still for the most part. I am so proud!! I love you, Molly-pup!!

  1. Ha! I love it. My mom just told me she got a lecture from the vet about the calculus on her dog's teeth. You should start an Canine Hygiene practice.
